"Fort McMurray residents pay the highest prices in Alberta for the popular four-bedroom and two-bathroom type of houses, according to a recent report by Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

In its annual report on U.S. and Canadian house prices, Coldwell said it costs $593,000 for a four-bedroom house in Fort McMurray, $551,000 in Calgary and $452,000 in Edmonton."

A 104-hectare parcel of land Syncrude began to reclaim in the mid-1980s received a reclamation certificate last month - the first ever oil sands land reclamation certificate to be issued by the provincial government.
The forested area, known as Gateway Hill, has hiking trails and lookout points and is about 35 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.

The government also will virtually ban new ``dirty'' coal- fired power plants, under rules that will be completed next year and come into force in 2010, Environment Minister John Baird said today in a statement from Ottawa. The move expands on a pledge last year to reduce emissions 20 percent by 2020."

FORT MCMURRAY -- RCMP say two men are dead and a man is seriously injured following another fatal accident on Hwy 63 near Fort McMurray.

Police say the motorists were killed after two pickup trucks collided yesterday morning just north of the turnoff to the Suncor oilsands plant.

TWIN THE LINKPolitical and labour leaders have been lobbying the Alberta government for years to twin the major link between Edmonton and the oilsands capital.

Between 2001 and 2005, there were 1,011 collisions on the highway, killing 25 people and injuring 257 others.

The province has committed $820 million to twinning the road, but has been widely criticized for not expediting the work. RCMP say that 10 people died in accidents on Hwy 63 last year.

Good Customer Support ?

As we all know (or most of us), there’s no such thing as “good customer service” here in Fort McMurray.

Or if there is (or are), it’s hard to get it.

We purchased a Fellowes Powershred SB-95C last year, * which is only 37 days till the warranty expiration.

The machine was purchased in Calgary. For almost a year, this baby had been so busy. Eating up all the privacy-sensitive paperworks. Doing it job very very well. But it came to point that it got tired. Burnt-out.

Contacting the CS for any services that is still covered by the warranty*, we got an even better news. Instead of sending someone to look at it, they will be sending a new machine. How cool is that?

Since there’s no local Service Support in our town, the nearest is in Edmonton. These people are so cool, or are they? I don’t really care, but it’s a good thing to get a new machine as a replacement.

I saw a couple of guys somewhere near Save on Foods last weekend.
Well, they look healthy. They smoking too!
But they are wearing a really wornout clothes. I even saw one of the guy checking out the garbage can. I was wondering if they have a home. Or if they do have a job.

Is it hard to find job in Fort McMurray? I bet, it's not as hard as finding a home to stay. Isn't it?
