There are a number of reasons why Fort McMurray's population might be growing. For one, the city is home to a number of major industries, such as oil and gas production. This means that there are plenty of well-paying jobs available, which is often a major draw for people looking to move to a new city.
In addition, Fort McMurray is also a very beautiful city, with its location in the middle of the stunning Alberta landscape. This means that people who move here can enjoy all that the province has to offer, while also being close to major urban centres.

Here's what that means for the city's demographics.
The median age is the age at which half the population is older and half is younger. So, in Fort McMurray, 34 is the age at which half the population is 34 years old or younger, and half is 35 years old or older.
This median age is relatively young when compared to the median ages of other cities in Canada. For example, the median age in Toronto is 39 years old, while in Vancouver it is 41 years old.
The young median age in Fort McMurray can be attributed to a few different factors. One reason is that the city has a high proportion of young people. In fact, nearly 30% of the city's population is under the age of 20.
This is likely due to the fact that Fort McMurray is a relatively new city. It wasn't until the 1970s that the population began to grow rapidly, due to the development of the oil sands. This means that many of the people who live in Fort McMurray are the children and grandchildren of the people who first moved to the city to work in the oil sands.
The young median age can also be attributed to the fact that Fort McMurray is a very diverse city. In 2016, the city's population was made up of people from more than 100 different countries. This diversity brings a lot of young people to the city, as many of them come to Fort McMurray to study or work.
The median age of 34 years old is just one aspect of Fort McMurray's demographics. The city is also home to a large population of working adults, as well as a growing number of retirees. This makes Fort McMurray a city with a bright future, as its young population will be able to support the city's growing population of seniors.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">4. This is higher than the Alberta median of $114,000 and the national median of $90,000.
Income is an important factor in determining quality of life and standards of living. It is often used as a predictor of other important social outcomes such as health and education.
The high median household income in Fort McMurray is likely due to the fact that the city is home to a large number of high-paying jobs in the oil and gas industry. It is also home to a number of people who commute to work in Edmonton and Calgary, two of the wealthiest cities in the country.
The high cost of living in Fort McMurray is also a factor. Housing, food, and other essentials are more expensive in Fort McMurray than in other parts of the country.
Despite the high cost of living, the median household income in Fort McMurray is still relatively high. This is likely due to the high salaries in the oil and gas industry. For many people, the high cost of living is offset by the high salaries they earn.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">5. This is significantly higher than the national average of 5.6%, and is indicative of the current economic situation in the city.
The majority of unemployed individuals in Fort McMurray are aged 15-24, which is to be expected given the large number of youth that live in the city. However, there is also a significant number of unemployed adults aged 25-54. This is likely due to the recent layoffs in the oil and gas industry, which have disproportionately affected older workers.
The high unemployment rate in Fort McMurray is having a negative impact on the city's economy. Retail sales have declined in recent months, and businesses are struggling to stay afloat. The city's housing market is also feeling the effects of the unemployment crisis, as more and more people are struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments.
The situation in Fort McMurray is dire, but there is hope on the horizon. The city is currently in the midst of a economic diversification plan, which aims to attract new industries and create jobs in sectors other than oil and gas. This will be a long and difficult process, but it is essential for the future of the city.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">6. In 2016, the city had a crime rate of 8,377 per 100,000 people, compared to the national average of 2,452 per 100,000 people. This means that you are nearly four times more likely to be the victim of a crime in Fort McMurray than you are in the rest of Canada.
There are a number of factors that contribute to the high crime rate in Fort McMurray. First, the city has a high population of transient workers. These workers are often in the city for only a few months at a time, and many are from other countries. This transient population can be difficult to monitor and can be a source of crime.
Second, the city has a high concentration of bars and nightclubs. These business often attract a rowdy crowd and can lead to violence and property crimes.
Third, Fort McMurray is an oil-rich city, and this can make it a target for organized crime. The city has a higher than average rate of drug-related crimes, as well as robbery and homicide.
Fourth, the city has a large youth population. This can lead to higher rates of crime, as young people are more likely to commit crimes than adults.
Finally, the city is located in a remote area, which can make it difficult for police to respond to crimes in a timely manner.
The high crime rate in Fort McMurray can be a cause for concern for residents and visitors alike. However, there are a number of things that you can do to stay safe. First, be sure to familiarize yourself with the city and be aware of areas that are known to be unsafe.
Second, don't go out alone at night. If you must go out, be sure to go with a group of friends and stay in well-lit, busy areas.
Third, don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. Avoid areas where there is known drug activity, and don't flash your valuables in public.
Fourth, be sure to lock your doors and windows, and don't let strangers into your home.

One of the most common effects of isolation is feelings of loneliness and depression. This is due to the loss of social interaction and contact with loved ones. When people are isolated, they often feel like they have no one to turn to, which can lead to despair.
Another effect of isolation is anxiety. This is caused by the fear of contracting the virus, as well as the uncertainty of the future. People who are isolated often feel like they are in a constant state of worry, which can lead to insomnia and other mental health problems.
Lastly, isolation can cause physical health problems. This is because people who are isolated often do not get enough exercise, leading to weight gain and other health issues. Additionally, isolation can lead to a decrease in immunity, which can make people more susceptible to colds and other illnesses.

Here are a few ways to stay connected and support each other during this time of social distancing:
1. Reach out to friends and family via phone, text, email, or social media. A quick check-in can go a long way in brightening someone’s day.
2. Many churches and community groups are now offering online services and activities. Connect with others virtually by attending an online service or participating in an online discussion group.
3. Get outside for some fresh air and vitamin D (when the weather permits)! Go for a walk, bike ride, or run while maintaining a safe distance from others. Wave hello to your neighbours from a safe distance and enjoy the beauty of nature.
4. Support local businesses by ordering take-out or delivery. Many restaurants and businesses are still operating during this time. Show your support by ordering from them when you can.
5. Donate blood if you are eligible. Blood donations are always needed and during this time, many blood drives have been cancelled. Check with your local blood bank to see if they are still in operation and see if you are eligible to donate.
6. Volunteer your time virtually. There are many organisations that could use your help, even if you can’t physically be there. Many organisations are now offering virtual volunteering opportunities.
7. Check in on your elderly or vulnerable neighbours. Many people in our community are at a higher risk for serious illness if they contract COVID-19. See if there is anything you can do to help them out, such as getting groceries or medicines for them.
By staying connected, we can get through this tough time together.</p><p style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #374151; cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; font-size: 16px; margin: 1.25em 0px; white-space: pre-wrap;">The pandemic has caused immense isolation in Fort McMurray. The most likely explanation is that the fire was started by humans, but exactly how it began remains a mystery.
The fire began on May 1, 2016, in the wilderness south of the city. It quickly spread and grew out of control, eventually reaching the city itself. By the time it was extinguished, over 2,000 homes and buildings had been destroyed.
There are many potential causes of the fire, but the exact cause remains unknown. One possibility is that the fire was started by a cigarette butt or other piece of litter that was not properly extinguished. Another possibility is that the fire was started by a campfire that was not properly extinguished. It is also possible that the fire was started by a piece of machinery that created sparks.

I came to this small city in the middle of nowhere with big dreams and aspirations. I was determined to make a new life for myself and my family. I can honestly say that it has been the best decision I have ever made.
Life in Fort McMurray is not easy. There are long hours and hard work. But there is also a sense of community and support that I have never experienced before. I am proud to be part of a city that is working together to build a bright future.
I am also proud to be part of the Filipino community in Fort McMurray. It is a tight-knit group of people who are always there for each other. We may be far from our families, but we have each other. And that is something I will always be grateful for.
When I look back on my journey, I can see how far I have come. I am so proud of myself and everything I have accomplished. I am excited for the future and all that it holds. I am grateful for the chance to start fresh and create the life I want.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">2. The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon, and the sky was a beautiful orange hue. I remember being so excited to finally be in Canada and to start my new life here. I had no idea what to expect, but I was eager to find out.
As the taxi pulled up to my new home, I couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. I had never lived in a place like this before. Everything was so new and unfamiliar to me. But, I was also excited to start this new chapter in my life.
I remember unpacking my things and exploring my new home. Everything was so different from what I was used to back in the Philippines. But, I was determined to make the most of my new life in Canada.
One of the first things I did was to find a job. I was lucky enough to find work at a local grocery store. It wasn't the dream job I had always imagined, but it was a start. I was also able to meet new people and make some friends.
As time went on, I started to feel more settled in Fort McMurray. I began to explore more of the city and to discover all that it had to offer. I also started to learn more about the people who lived here. I soon realized that Fort McMurray was a very diverse and welcoming community.
It has now been a few years since I arrived in Fort McMurray. I have made some great friends, and I have been able to build a life here. I am so grateful for the opportunities that I have been given, and I am excited to see what the future holds.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">3. A New Life in a New Country

I had never been to Canada before, and I had only heard stories about the cold winters. I was born and raised in the Philippines, and moving to Fort McMurray was a big change for me.
One of the first things I noticed was the landscape. It was so different from anything I had ever seen before. The trees were enormous, and there was snow everywhere. I was amazed at how different the world looked.
Moving to Fort McMurray was a big adjustment, but I soon found a community of Filipinos that made me feel at home. I met people who had been in Fort McMurray for years, and they helped me adjust to my new life. I also met people who were new to Fort McMurray, and we shared our experiences of moving to a new country.
One of the things I love about living in Fort McMurray is the sense of community. I feel like I belong here, and I'm proud to be a part of this community. I'm also proud to be a Filipina, and I'm proud to have made a new life in a new country.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">4. I had never been to Canada before, and I didn't know anyone in the city. I was excited to start my new job, but I was also nervous about the unknown. Thankfully, my employer was very understanding and helpful during those first few weeks. They showed me around the office, introduced me to the team, and helped me get settled in.
The first few weeks were a bit overwhelming, as I tried to learn my way around the office and get used to the Canadian work culture. I quickly learned that things here are a bit different than what I'm used to back home. For example, I had to get used to the fact that people here are always on the move. There are no leisurely lunches or long coffee breaks. It's all work, work, work!
I also had to learn how to deal with the cold weather. Coming from the Philippines, I was used to hot and humid weather. The first time I stepped outside and felt the cold air on my skin, I could barely breathe! I was so surprised that people here actually enjoy the winter. They go outside to play in the snow and go for walks in the cold. It's hard to believe, but I'm slowly getting used to it.
In general, I would say that the first few weeks have been a learning experience. There are many things that are different here, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'm excited to see what the rest of my time in Fort McMurray will be like.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">5. It was a shock to my system, and I had to adjust quickly. I was used to the warm weather in the Philippines, so the cold was a bit of a shock to my system. However, I did not let it deter me from enjoying my new life in Fort McMurray. I bought some warmer clothes and made sure to bundle up whenever I went outside.
It took a little bit of time to get used to the cold weather, but I eventually did. Once I got used to it, I actually started to enjoy the winter. I loved the snow and the way the world looked covered in a blanket of white. I would go for walks and take in the scenery. I even started to enjoy the cold weather workouts.
Now, after living in Fort McMurray for a few years, I can say that I actually prefer the cold weather to the heat. I find it more comfortable and I love the way the world looks in winter. I am glad I made the adjustment to the cold weather and I now enjoy living in Fort McMurray all year round.</p><h2 style="--tw-border-spacing-x: 0; --tw-border-spacing-y: 0; --tw-ring-color: rgb(59 130 246 / 0.5); --tw-ring-offset-color: #fff; --tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-ring-offset-width: 0px; --tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-rotate: 0; --tw-scale-x: 1; --tw-scale-y: 1; --tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity; --tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 #0000; --tw-shadow: 0 0 #0000; --tw-skew-x: 0; --tw-skew-y: 0; --tw-translate-x: 0; --tw-translate-y: 0; border-color: rgb(229, 231, 235); border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: var(--tw-prose-headings); cursor: text; font-family: "Inter var", ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol", "Noto Color Emoji"; line-height: 1.33333; margin: 2em 0px 1em; white-space: pre-wrap;">6. It will take time, and there will be challenges along the way. But the strength and resiliency of the people of this city is undeniable. We have already started to come together as a community to help one another through this difficult time.
I am optimistic about the future of Fort McMurray. I believe that we will come out of this stronger than ever before. We will rebuild our homes, our businesses, and our lives. We will support each other through the challenges we face.
And we will never forget what we have been through. The events of 2016 have brought us closer together and given us a new sense of purpose. We are a city of survivors.

But amidst the ashes of the wildfire, there is hope for a new beginning. And for one Filipina woman, that new beginning is already underway.
Just a few months ago, Jenny (not her real name) arrived in Fort McMurray with her family. They had been living in the Philippines, but decided to make the move to Canada for a better life. Jenny's husband had heard about the great job opportunities in Fort McMurray, and so they packed up their belongings and made the journey.
Now, Jenny is working as a housekeeper in one of the local hotels. She says that it's a lot of hard work, but she's grateful for the job. And despite everything that has happened, she says that she's happy to be in Fort McMurray.
