A 104-hectare parcel of land Syncrude began to reclaim in the mid-1980s received a reclamation certificate last month - the first ever oil sands land reclamation certificate to be issued by the provincial government.
The forested area, known as Gateway Hill, has hiking trails and lookout points and is about 35 kilometres north of Fort McMurray.
